I’d be a little surprised given how tightly the Republican party has taken to using red as their representative colour (and blue for Democrats).
Basically a deer with a human face. Despite probably being some sort of magical nature spirit, his interests are primarily in technology and politics and science fiction.
Spent many years on Reddit before joining the Threadiverse as well.

Except not even they have been doing it aside from Kim Jong Un. So just that guy. And even him not since 2017.

What do you mean “now?” Americans have had this habit of calling anyone whose politics they disapprove of a “communist” or “socialist” for a very long time.

The classic pattern of “commoditize your complement”, where an industry that depends on some other product acts to ensure that the market for that product is impossible to monopolize.
Or, less charitably, the classic pattern of destroying rivals by giving away what they’re trying to sell.
Either way, it’s a weird timeline where China has become the bastion for openness and intellectual progress in this field, but I guess I’ll take it over OpenAI maintaining an iron stranglehold on the technology.

There are well-documented instances of this. Republicans supported the Green Party in the 2024 American elections, for example, providing them with legal and consulting aid. Same with independent candidate Cornel Green. This technique relies on people not voting strategically.
I’m sure the Conservative party would have been very happy if the NDP had siphoned some additional votes away from the Liberals in tightly contested ridings.

He also had a recurring role on Night Court, but I think that show’s cancelled now so I dunno.

The NDP is not currently a recognized party at all, let alone a “major” one. Or are you referring to the Bloc?
Vote for what is closest to your values or just don’t show up
That’s the same picture if you’re an NDP voter in most ridings in the last election. Watch the video, it’s very short and explains the problem quite well.

You’re insisting on an outcome that was not possible. The NDP were not going to achieve any significant power or influence in the previous election. With a handful of exceptional ridings, any vote for the NDP was effectively a vote for Pierre. You may not be happy with that but it is the reality dictated by the electoral facts on the ground and by basic game theory. Insisting otherwise results in people ending up voting against their own interests.

And for years people have insisted to me that there’s no use to be had from fully decentralized DNS alternatives like ENS.
These things are like backups. You need to start using them before you discover that you need them.

In a minority Liberal government, perhaps. I don’t see a Conservative minority government being particularly interested in working with the NDP.

Obviously I know that. Carney’s current government is a minority government.
You really think the NDP would be a meaningful partner in any sense to a Conservative government? They’d work with the Liberals instead, they’re more closely aligned with Conservative goals and values.

It’s clearly not suspended from that cable. You can clearly see how much slack there is in it. This is just another example of striving to find some excuse not to believe that it’s real, no matter how much of a stretch it takes to get to that conclusion.

Because all of these robot tech demos tend to be very misleading
Emphasis added.

All of them? Hardly. This very demo is a counterexample.
I suspect it’s more that lots of people don’t want these to be actual robots.

Also, um… why does it have boobs?
You know why. Because it makes it look more appealing.

Here’s some video of one moving around with no skin whatsoever.
Why is it so hard for people to believe that this is an actual robot?

Depending on what’s on your shelves, you might find my solution of use. Whenever things are a bit too dusty in my house I put on a filter mask and fire up an electric leaf blower. Blasts all the dust off of the various hard-to-reach surfaces and into the air. Then I either use a high-volume blower fan to circulate the air out of the house through a window (if the weather’s nice) or if it’s winter I just let it settle and vacuum it out of the carpet (some ends up back on the shelves, sure, but most surface area in the house is floor so it’s still a net win).
Some other stuff gets knocked off the shelves in the process, but I just consider that a sign of weakness. Those things didn’t deserve their prominent position on those shelves to begin with.

Only two parties were realistically capable of forming a government in that election. One was led by Carney, the other by Pollievre.
You’re saying going with the Carney option was a “big mistake?”
A bit, sure. But as I mentioned, the majority of the surface area in my house is the floor. I’m fine with it settling on the floor because I vacuum that with a vacuum cleaner anyway.
There’s always going to be some dust on the shelves. Even if I meticulously cleaned them with the most thorough of methods more dust would immediately start accumulating anyway.
