It’s so fucked up that these ultra wealthy companies are exploiting people like this. Uber was the first to bring legislation up near me, and I did not appreciate them winning that vote. They ran a successful, multi-million dollar campaign to delude voters into thinking full employee status actually hurt the drivers.
If they can’t pay a decent wage, they should file for bankruptcy.
If your company relies on taking advantage of others … maybe the company should not survive. Something the USA needs
“If you you don’t let me abuse the system I will fail 😭”
Oh no!
If you can’t set your own rate, you’re an employee.
This is actually the best take I’ve ever seen on the entire “gig economy”.
You can set your own rate though? You can refuse as many trips as you want. If a trip is below what you want to be paid, refuse it. You’ll keep getting offers for more. You’re never under obligation to work.
If you’re an employee, you’re required to work and can be fired for refusal.
-
Someone who is not an employee can negotiate the fee per mile. You seem to think only accepting longer trips is the same.
-
No, you can’t only accept longer trips. The system will punish a driver for attempting to choose which offers to accept, and drivers won’t learn the destination until the passenger is picked up.
Well that’s different from food delivery, where you as the driver see the offer in dollar amount, restaurant location, and estimated time of delivery. You see a $20 delivery but it’s estimated to take 1.5 hours? Just refuse it.
The system doesn’t punish you. You can refuse as many as you want and they just keep coming in.

Guess its a shitty business model if it can’t survive paying fair wages.
Please collapse.
And again: if your business model relies on underpaying people it’s not a good business model.
But…but…capitalism?
Collapse then you parasitic fucks. Maybe real taxis will make a comeback then.
yah, do these parascite companies think any of us like them? if i could summon an actual cab from my phone while innebriated, i would. we like your apps you stupid shites. we hate you. pay your fucking workers
I hate to be that guy, but you’ve been able to summon taxis via phone pretty much for as long as either have existed.
But I get what you mean, the app is the game-changer. I’ve had dispatch schedule a taxi for me and then they just didn’t show up. 🤷♂️ No way to track or check the progress…
Plus, with the app, there’s transparent up front pricing.
Good luck getting that from an NYC cab.
And, depending on the location, it works in other states/countries as well.
I mean, not to be glib but if you’ve summoned a taxi that hasn’t shown up, you haven’t summoned a taxi. That doesn’t mean “Fuck it, let private rideshare apps own everything” but it’s easy to see where the shift in consumer behavior might be coming from. Even in low-stakes situations, having your ride not show up is frustrating.
Right, so the difference is that they built a system that actually provides service.
But they aren’t paying the people enough that do the actual work for said service.
Yes, that’s the problem with it.
In Japan they have the Go app that allows you to hail and pay for a taxi ride directly in the app. You pay all of the regular dates and fees. The app just adds an additional fee on top to pay for the service.
It was incredibly useful and easy to use. You could even see when the taxi accepted the ride, track their progress, and message the driver if there was a question.
I think ride sharing services are forbidden in Japan. But this app seems like the best of both worlds.
You say this like taxi companies weren’t grossly underpaying their employees as well (for literally decades). LoL 😂
Yeah, well at least they were employees and not ‘contractors.’ Ride share companies are shit and everybody knows it.

If your company cant survive because it has to start paying your “contractors” as actually employees. Then you shouldn’t be in business. Adios!
Justice is so slow, it took 15 years to set what was obvious since day one
Don’t these companies bring in billions of dollars in profits? What’s the big deal, that their CEO won’t get a few extra millions?
That’s the point of everything with money. Greedy fucks mad they cant break the rules for extra millions.
Gig companies are such a joke. They try to offer a service, but they want millions for doing nothing while the actual people who make their service useful are scrambling to make ends meet. Greed personified in App form. Restaurants use to deliver for free as incentive to get customers, now you are forced to use one of these fucking apps that tacks on an exhorbitant charge and then they still ask you to tip on top of these new exhorbitant charges.
Blow it all up, let’s start again. Maybe we’ll get it right this time?
If you can’t afford to be in business then don’t be in business.
