Came to lemmy for a bit when they killed 3rd party apps in July '23. But I switched back once I learned how to make Boost (my favourite reddit app) usable again.

Now I’m back here, hopefully permanently. Was calling out a troll on a local subreddit and found out users are now able to hide their post and comment history… Unless you keep a folder of screenshots of bots, trolls etc., it is hard to call them out now.

Boost is also on lemmy now, so that lessens the pain a little bit. But the communities that I used to frequent on reddit is close to dead here, especially my local community lol. So I’ve just been browsing active but most of these are irrelevant to me. So I turned back to spending my time on other things like reading, games, etc.!

I left reddit when I realized that probably 50% or more of the users are actually bots. Literally debating with robots.

Yeah, the move to hide users’ post history and comments serves more to hide advertisers, scammers, trolls, bots, etc… User privacy? People got it before by having multiple accounts that were used for different purposes. It has worked for years lmfao.

Lemmy is exactly like Reddit was in the early days. Long before the enshitification started.

Back in those days niche forums still existed and search engines worked.

I’m happy here. I love it in fact.

Leaving reddit has helped me substantially. That website is full of bots and trolls. The admins are power hungry and really angry for some reason.

I started reading again, doing more art and not doomscrolling as much. I could waste 3 or 4 hours easily scrolling through the reddit shithole and learn nothing.

I do miss the modding subreddits and the mechanics subreddits cause i like working on stuff and most of the post here are program/linux based. But as time goes on, this site will get better with more people and posts.

I hadn’t been to reddit for over a year, but recently picked it up again. They’ve got things that we don’t have, because they’re bigger. Their community isn’t all bad, but you have to look hard.

I make sure not to post anything though. No comments or upvotes either. I would still rather see them die, but sunce they’re here, I might as well use them.

Definitely yeah, I mean they’ve got over 110M daily active users while Lemmy has 40k daily users it’s not even comparable, if Lemmy had users in the Millions I think it would be much better.

I always looked for a reddit altenative, even though Reddit has all the things you’d ever want, and people from all around the world that you’l probably never meet but still, I would change so many things.

…if Lemmy had users in the Millions I think it would be much better.

At least until a certain threshold is reached. I think part of Lemmy’s charm comes from it being a small community. Though maybe this can be sustained by having more active sublemmys forming smaller groups again.

I love how you can always expect elaborate answers to your questions here. Also there seem to be less trolls and unfriendly comments in general. Pleasant culture.

Lemmy has advanced leaps and bounds since the Reddit exodus, and has not devolved into a nazi shithole like most Reddit clones. It still lacks many niche communities, but hopefully this will improve over time.

I’m not sure if it’s just Spez, I think Reddit’s moderation needs a serious overhal, but at this point they’ve got so many users that I’m not even sure if they look at their appeals anymore, probably not.
