I’ve posted quite a bit on here since I created my account, posts I consider non-controversial, since I’m not interested in arguing or getting into heated topics like politics. Even so, I still get the occasional snarky comment. Out of curiosity, I sometimes check the person’s post history when I see something like that, and without fail, their profile is full of snarky, negative, or hateful posts overall. It always makes me wonder: do people like this genuinely get enjoyment from surrounding themselves with negativity? What’s the thought process behind it?

I personally like to argue in general both in person and digitally. I tend to like commenting if its a topic I’m familiar with. You could say I’m snarky kinda regularly but not aggressive typically. Sometimes trolling people can be a fun time waste too. I’m a mostly happy and fulfilled person though. I think if someone’s whole profile is filled with negativity/hate, that’s probably because they are a negative/hateful person. The internet gives them the voice and anonymity to express that shitty attitude. Long story short, some people just suck.

and a lot of people build an identity/community out of their shared hatreds and insecurities.

i remember when you’d look at someones profile and reddit and half their comments were in fatpeoplehate or other types of subreddits, and the other half were in the loseit subreddit.
