JD Vance will raise his voice to Zelenskyy.
This is 100% Trump. He thinks this is a big foreign policy win that he can carry into the mid-terms.
Of course, ending the war means convincing Russia to back down from the fight that they started, and the US no ability to do that because Trump still keeps trying to treat Russia like a friend. So any pressure they put on them will be meaningless. Meanwhile any pressure they put on Ukraine will basically amount to “End the war on Russia’s terms, or fight it without our help”, which is just a choice between two equally terrible options.
The US is no longer actively contributing to Ukraine’s defence, but merely selling weapons to European nations who then donate them to Ukraine, and France is providing the majority of intelligence to Ukraine now.
At this stage it’s time to assume that the US is no longer an ally of Europe or Ukraine, and is not negotiating in good faith for the end of the war on Ukraine’s terms.
I kind of think “equally terrible” might be an overstatement here.
Strength is the only language that the American government understands.
