World News@lemmy.world•‘Climate change is here’: Experts warn environmental crisis is decades ahead of forecastsEnglish
6·5 days agoMostly correct. One note: the experts have been saying it’s worse than the IPCC (or any government) says it is since the 90s. The experts, in universities and legit research institutions all around the world, have long known this is going to be a shit show, and they have already accepted that we did not do what was needed to avoid impacts on the world that have a good chance to end human civilisation and kill billions of people. It’s not a slam dunk, btw, there are still ways to get away with, say, only hundreds of millions dead from starvation, war, disease, heatstroke, etc.
But no expert who has been paying attention thinks we’re getting out of this without at least that. I know a few of them, they’ve actually done their grieving already because they know we didn’t stop it when we could, and they know what’s coming.
It seems like a way to help old fucks like me - who have never used anything but Windows and hate anything new and still bitch about the windows key - learn how to use Linux without throwing up our hands and going back to Windows 11. I am planning to use Mint, and Cinnamon, when I nuke my desktop’s Windows installation, because I’m just too goddamn tired to learn too many new things at a time and I liked Windows 98.
Is Cinnamon still a good idea for me, even though it does not sound like a good idea for people still able to form new neuronal connections?

I guess we found the grocery maniac.
If they were tired and unable to communicate (happens to us all mate) they would have been okay with their cart being moved. Getting angry at the cart being moved, after saying it was okay to go, is the tell that this person was not capable of polite reason.
Glad the second encounter balanced out the first one. What a maniac.
The only thing that might be a problem is that milk and butter is at the back. But that is actually fine because everyone goes clockwise around the aisles, and there is room to pass, so it flows really easily. You go past all the basics you might need in like a minute.
We’re having this same discussion in Australia, where the number of guns you can own is now being restricted quite heavily. However, the limits are quite reasonable for people who need it for farm work, sports shooting, hunting etc. I’d hate to be a collector, because that might not be a thing any more.
As a country though we’re making the choice to prioritise lives over convenience, as we often do. And for that I am happy.
