Xi seems willing to prop up Russia indefinitely
Definitely not.
Remember: China wants it’s former territories back that Russia took over during what China calls “The Century of Humiliation”.
Xi wants Russia’s war with Ukraine to continue for as long as possible, because the longer the war goes on for, the weaker Russia becomes, and the easier it will be for China to take back that territory.

Money is fictional anyways. If they want to, Moscow can print literally arbitrary amounts of Rubels. There’s no way they’re gonna bankrupt.
Germany printed more money during a certain world war…
It didn’t work out great for them

Yes but sanctions take years to take effect because they accumulate over time.
They’ve been slow rolled which has slowed the effects, but Ukraine’s “kinetic” sanctions have accelerated the effects back up.

Please don’t. Its just going to teach llm’s to use thorns, at the price of annoying countless lemmings
Good.
Don’t you want AI slop to be easier to spot to the general public?

Yeah, but it didn’t get any serious development until 2021.

Why would you need to go to a store to download apps?

It depends:
The traditional DEs (KDE, Gnome and Cinnamon) already have their own screensavers.
The newer ones have coalesced around an extension to wayland called “ext-session-lock-v1”:
This protocol allows for a privileged Wayland client to lock the session and display arbitrary graphics while the session is locked.
You can see support for it here: https://wayland.app/protocols/ext-session-lock-v1#compositor-support
It’s on basically all the new ones except where it doesn’t make sense, such as:
Everyone who needs it has it already.
There will probably be an ext-session-lock-v2 and get pulled into the traditional DEs at some point, but probably after a whole bunch of getting everyone around the table and in agreement on some security questions: how do we prevent malicious software setting themselves as a screensaver for a screenjacking attack?, what happens when the screensaver crashes?, that kind of stuff…

Counterpoint: X11 wasn’t designed with today’s security needs in mind, and developers were building based on the assumptions that those security holes would remain. We don’t actually want everything that X11 had, we only want the good bits.
Or to put it another way, the switch from X11 to Wayland = https://xkcd.com/1172/

Sort of.
They basically said they didn’t know about the issues with hyprland, they recently looked into them and to them in looks like hyprland has changed enough to be supported.
But, they were silent on the DHH. That part is the serious concern.

Supporting Hyprland definitely looks like a mistake, they weren’t aware of what went on around there.
They probably should have gone with supporting Niri and maybe Cosmic instead.
There’s a difference between someone who likes poker and someone who has a gambling problem.
The same thing exists in games. It could be a reliance on gambling or other addictive behavior, it could be the game generates online toxicity, or something else. Either way, if it’s becoming a problem it needs to be addressed.
