I remember reading something somewhere that the gravitational lensing of dark matter (where light bends around and you can see behind) was evidence for dark matter being a thing that exists. Dark matter could really be anything though (ones I have heard about include WIMPs, primordial black holes, and supersymmetric particles like gravitinos), and we simply don’t have enough experimental data to know what it is. We know it exists as we see its gravitational effects in galaxies and such, but that’s about it.

So it’s like when a camera doesn’t have enough light to properly take a photo, producing a lot of grain. Like when you have a high ISO when taking a photo/video in a dark room, it looks very grainy. I guess the eye is still adjusting its “exposure” if you see some of this graininess in the dark (or when you close your eyes?)

The Sun is a star though? It’s not one you should look at with your bare eyes though, since it is relatively close to Earth. It’ll burn your eyeballs. Most other stars are many many light years (the distance that LIGHT travels in a year) away from Earth, so they look super tiny and don’t make night time bright like the Sun does during day time. Fun fact, many of the stars you see in the night sky aren’t actually stars, but entire galaxies! There’s also a bunch of binary star systems as well as triple star systems (trinary? ternary?), so when stars orbit around each other, the brightness changes. (e.g. if Star A and B orbit each other, and B is brighter than A, then when they orbit each other, you periodically see either star A or the brighter star B and, at a distance, it looks like one star that is varying in brightness, a variable star!)

Personally, I’m just using an old laptop (think it’s 11th gen Intel i5) as a home server. A mini PC seems like a good option if you don’t have an old laptop though.

I also have an older laptop with a 6th gen Intel core i3 and a dead battery that I have to put to good use at some point, but haven’t bothered to do so yet. What should I use it for?
