one of the main things is it’s just painfully easy to install and have set up. I’ve installed regular arch countless times but sometimes I just don’t want to be bothered with that so installing CachyOS just makes things easier/smoother.

Their repos are great, their kernel is great (to the point I’m even using it on NixOS) and it’s just an overall smooth experience.

Plus I like the options they give you for DE’s and WM’s on install which they provide just about all of them with their own tailored configs.

after looking at their site…oh fuck no.

they offer lines of credit to pay your rent. but you have to pay back said credit by the end of the month so…why? If you’re having trouble paying your rent getting a line of credit to cover it and then having to pay back said credit by the end of the month on top of a percentage AND membership fee it just sounds exactly like a payday loan where you KNOW they hope you roll over so you’ll never be able to catch up.

how much they pay you comrade? or is it more like “if you post our propaganda we’ll give you a new rug to hang on your wall and more vodka to feed you and your families wet brains. Also here’s a new adidas track suit so you can go squat in.”

I’m currently using NixOS and I constantly switch back to CachyOS every now and again. By far the best Arch based distros and one of the best overall distros available.

looks like a bad Nvidia driver that isn’t playing nice with Niri since it looks like Niri triggered it. Try installing temporarly another Wayland WM like say River or Hyprland and see if it still happens. Bet it’s not going to happen on River, bet it will happen on Hyprland.

Reinstall your Nvidia drivers, update your kernel, update Niri if it isn’t already up to date.

I get it and don’t hate it. If one of my projects took off like that and gained traction the absolute LAST thing I’d want to be is CEO of the whole damn thing. That’s just not who I am. I’d hope I’d be able to find and hand it off to someone more qualified for that position. So I totally get where Eugen is coming from as I would have done the exact same thing.

sorry I just went off the article and didn’t watch the video.

the problem is two fold and this applies to all LLMs.

1. according to the article the person asked HOW to increase the font size. Copilot then tells Aura to go increase the font size so it’s not exactly what the person asked.

2. like all LLMs it MUST provide a solution. it MUST do something. Copilot asks Aura to increase the font size to 150%. it’s already at 150%. but instead of going back to the user and saying “the font size is already set to 150%, would you like to increase it more?” it just goes ahead and bumps it up to 200 because it has to. it has no choice, it must provide some kind of solution. LLMs like GPT5, Claude, etc will do similar crap which ultimately shows that recent models are all collectively garbage. they now must ALL provide some sort of solution even if the majority of the time said solutions are actually hallucinations. LLMs aren’t allowed to say “I don’t know” or “it’s already done” or whatever.

So this video/article just shows how pointless and unreliable LLMs/AI are at even the most basic things. They’ve all been told that they must provide some kind of solution, always. It’s especially bad now with recent updates. Claude will hallucinate 8 times out of 10 for its solutions. GPT5 now just info dumps on you hoping something in there will resonate, it can’t provide an accurate precise solution anymore it just vomits on your plate and calls it a meal.

Wezterm is much better with SSH stuff, better tab and pane management, more customization than Kitty and if you have an issue with Wezterm the developer, Wes, isn’t going to chew your head off for bringing it up he’s actually a nice guy.

That being said even as far as tabs and panes for terminals outside of zellij or tmux there are much better options than kitty. Yes kitty has tabs and panes but they’re clearly an afterthought implementation that Kovid included just to please the masses. Wezterm does a MUCH better job overall than kitty in just about everything. Terminator is great also.

I just don’t bother with Kitty because heaven forbid you have an issue with it and post about it Kovid will make you feel like it’s YOUR fault his terminal isn’t working correctly.

mentioning EA games like Apex Legends removing support is laughable. Sure Alistair, ALL those EA games ALL decided around fall of 2024 to ditch support for Linux/Proton. All at the Same time. Not because EA has a deal with Microsoft/Game Pass and NOT because a few months later Microsoft announced their own Handheld with Asus. Just like Riot.
