… and that’s just the warmup act!

The core message seems to be: since Trump is doing everything by executive order, the next time a Democrat holds the office of the presidency, ALL of it will be undone. And some of it, in his view, will be declared illegal in the first place. Like, I don’t know, the DOGE takeover early in the year. Or the imprisonment of citizens and legal immigrants because racism.
Biden didn’t do any of it. He didn’t even push for the Trump tax cuts from 2017 to be undone, which was insane. I sense that’s part of the reason Harris lost in 2024, and it seems that the Democrats of 2025 are starting to smell the wind of change. Because the country and the voters forced them to.
I was horrified in 2022 when both Biden and Yellen went on the record stating they believed the high inflation was just temporary and not a larger concern. This time around it’s Trump telling America prices are down and the economy is booming.
Don’t worry! He’s only doing that temporarily, because he knows that while he doesn’t care about the starving children, the Democrats do. And he needs the Democrats because he doesn’t like the Affordable Care Act, because Obama helped make it a law, and everything Obama did has to be undone. Once the Democrats help him nuke the ACA, the starving children can eat again! (They better not choke on anything, though, or get food poisoning, because they might not have health care any longer.)

Everything about that case was horrifying, from the Koncerned Karen that called the police because he was being too Black on the street to the fact authorities tried to sweep the whole thing under the rug. The cops responsible even went to do selfies mocking Elijah on the anniversary of his death and a violin vigil was disbanded as if it were a looter mob after an earthquake.
And this to a human being that played the violin for shelter cats because they seemed to enjoy it. Elijah’s soul was so beautiful, it breaks my heart that he’s gone.

It’s my moment to remember Elijah McClain. Rest in peace, you beautiful soul.

You friggin’ just swept the elections in part because you showed you have a spine. Don’t throw it all away now. Force the GOP and Trump to reconsider: if there is a trillion dollars for the military, then there is money for SNAP AND ACA subsidies.

Soooo… We PAID for this B.S. We paid for the arrest, check the number of uniformed tax-payer funded officers. We paid for the prosecution, we paid for the court, we paid for the jury, we paid and paid AFTER the famously sandwich-indicting Grand Jury wouldn’t touch this case.
Somehow it feels like the DA should be relieved of their duties.

Wasn’t there a case of police officers badly beating someone and then claiming his blood stains on their uniforms were destruction of police property or some such?

I sense that “child neglect” and “federal weapons” chargess mean there was at least one gun fast and loose and loaded in the house. That sounds like a powder keg waiting to explode in any case.

Let alone open source!

Ricotta and dark chocolate for a dessert pizza

I agree with the sentiment, but the Washington Post has not been “liberal media” since Bezos bought it. I used to have a sub, in 2017, and don’t recognize the place any longer.

[The child who died] had been left out of the sight of staff when another young person at the facility had tried to drink cleaning supplies, which required urgent attention.
After reading this, I am pretty sure this facility is the last place on Earth I would send my troubled teenager to.
Wasn’t there some documentary of a different troubled teen facility in Utah… Never mind, I entered “utah troubled teen facility” into the search bar and down comes an ocean of bad news.

“Jobs are booming” and “inflation is falling,” Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said Tuesday.
Kids, this is what you sound like when you take the devil’s grass.

Awkward. That’s his younger brother.

By a wide margin the many different projects for an open source phone OS. From GrapheneOS to PostmarketOS, from Ubuntu Mobile to Plasma Mobile.
I am sick and tired of corporations telling me how I can use my phone. I am sick and tired of corporations deciding what apps I can install, from where, and what data they are allowed to collect. I am done with enshittification and the gradual disappearing of all useful information, either behind a paywall, or replaced by monetized content.
The last straw was when Google Maps decided to replace the “gas station on the route” feature that sent you to the cheapest gas station to some other logic it didn’t disclose, but that stinks of affiliate preference.

She was a good Speaker of the House during her tenure, and she terrified the Republican caucus. Many thanks to her for that!
Maybe she stayed a little too long. She, and RBG, and Biden and so many more old-school Democrats that just couldn’t let go when they should have. So many people will be remembered not for the things they accomplished, but for enabling the chaos that came after them because they were not willing to let go of power.
Tolkien was onto something with the rings of power. Humans can’t let go of it.

Y’all complain about Musk and about the quality issues of the hardware. I am more worried about the software and the willingness of the company to paywall basic functionality. I will never buy a car that can be bricked by the manufacturer remotely because I am not willing to pay a subscription.

That’s what I was speculating. Clearly, SCOTUS can see that the tariffs are hurting America and especially Americans, so this is a backdoor way of taking the ball from Trump for his own good.
That, or they are sick of having to pay more for their morning coffee because Trump wants a better deal for his buddy Bolsonaro.
There is a good chance the Kremlin is shutting down independent war mongers because it is realizing the war can’t be won and the damage to the economy is getting out of control. I don’t think it’s a coincidence that this is happening after the first widespread blackout in Moscow.
