Makes the problems of capitalism even worse. Instead of the owner class you get an even smaller political class controlling all means of production - the party leadership. It becomes even more prone to corruption than capitalism.
Adding to problems is the planned economy - it always results in misaligned incentives, bad allocation of resources, constant shortages…
Third, possibly the worst, is the constant insistence on ideological purity and severe punishment of “thought crimes”. Or as they like to call it “counterrevolutionary activity”.
Even though it was created out of good intentions, I don’t believe a lot positive aspects can be salvaged.

World News@lemmy.world•Olympics organisers moving towards blanket ban on transgender women from women's sportEnglish
231·2 days agoIf it wasn’t for the culture wars, it would be another Oscar Pistorius situation. Not the murder, the prosthetics.
For those who don’t know this guy was a runner whose legs were amputated, and he got replacement prosthetics that made him as good if not better than runners with natural legs. There was some debate if his disability actually gives him an advantage, if it should be allowed at all.
The best propaganda is to show the enemy as powerful and brave but misguided. That way your own victory seems more impressive.
They also have a trans railway in Siberia. Only trans people are allowed to use it.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•why are upper middle class or upper class people hated? (if they are)
19·4 days agoeveryone should. less people actually do care, but still many people care
why do they care? because they care about living their own life. if you spend your life making someone else well off, what’s even the point of living

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•why are upper middle class or upper class people hated? (if they are)
261·4 days agoThey usually live from other people’s labor.
There are 2 classes of people in the world:- those who earn from their own work
- those who earn from other people’s work
It’s rare to find an upper class person who earns living through their own work (usually sports and music)

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•If your lifes goal was to make life better for as many people as possible how would you go about achieving it, assuming you could get start-up capital for your project?
13·5 days agoNo need. If they have heirs, the wealth will be split. If the resulting heirs still have enough to be billionaires apply the solution recursively. Eventually it will be diluted enough that nobody is a billionaire.
If there are no heirs it usually goes to the state (depending on jurisdiction).

Map Enthusiasts@sopuli.xyz•"Hot spot" map of prevalence of autism spectrum disorder by county
1·11 months agoI strongly suspect the modern “spectrum” is just grouping and labeling certain personality profiles that have always existed in roughly similar proportions. Meaning that it’s not the proportion that is increasing, it’s that we chose to define certain combinations of human traits as ASD.
On the whole this labeling is probably useful since more people will get the support they need. But the point of delineation is mostly arbitrary.

Anger at begin gaslighted that their economy is doing good while the quality of life for most Americans dropped insanely.
I’m not American but I talk to Americans regularly. Back in 2018 USA still appeared to be a developed country, flawed but if you were middle class you could have a good life. Around 2021 it became basically impossible to survive. Right now the standard of life for a successful middle class person is better in formerly poor Eastern Europe (ex Poland) than in the USA.
This is mainly driven by insane housing costs. If the majority of your income goes to housing you don’t have anything left to enjoy life, even though your salaries are huge on paper.
