Nah man, you were right. Brain development is an appropriate metric, more so than random laws made by probable pedos. Not sure why the user you responded to said brain development has nothing to do with adulthood. I’d say it’s more sound than whatever we decide at the time because it fits a narrative and benefits our societies (which are still often exploitive)

301·1 day agoI’d almost understand where you’re coming from but most of us can’t afford a ship to explore, a slip in the marina, or even a property/room on the shore. For some of us, staring out at the ocean & capturing images from land is all we have. There’s gotta be a better way that doesn’t ruin it for the majority.

If we keep this up, we’ll never reach Steins Gate.
How can someone be dramatic about consent?
I’m not saying jump to violence immediately. We can start with rehabilition like Nordic countries, something as extreme as exile or yes violence.
I try not to assume anyone’s country of origin/habitat but with America we’re seeing first hand when the only accountability is a slap on the wrist, a finger wag and shame on you fine.
Consent scales, the one thing we all owe each other is basic human decency and a right to live our lives unimpeded as long as you’re not harming anyone. Filming/eavesdropping/invading boundaries and making people uncomfortable in a space let alone their own skin is grossly invasive

Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•Society is starting to appropriately accommodate neurodivergence, yet stupid/idiot/crazy/lazy etc. stay in the vocabulary.
31·22 days agoI hate to say it but those words, especially said by someone else to describe a person they refuse to empathize with, I take it with a grain of salt.
Stupid & insane can mean not by choice and as we’ve seen in the case of politics, it can also be a choice, or more like very stupid and insane decisions.
That said it can also be words used by a shitty society meant to extract as much “value” from everything as possible and sees people as a commodity to be used up and discarded.
So every asshole with a LinkedIn calling people stupid, lazy or insane has me wondering if they’re not the ones who are so unaware they call anything that questions the status quo sTuPiD, or refusing to follow others blindly and just do what their told, LaZy.
If those who refuse to participate in this assbackwards “community” we’ve created are iNsAnE.

You’re right it’s definitely a nuanced topic where a bunch of questions like this, along with things like the brains development and maturation as a machine into 30-mid 30s would be important to discuss.
All I know is politicians who obviously can’t be trusted make laws that allow the interests of their donors/lobbyists to decide people can drink/smoke their products, go into porn/to war etc. Not an actual interest, understanding and desire to make sure people are allowed their inalienable independence while also “protecting” them.
I also know I was a hopped up lil shit who was more than happy to find my own ways of accessing things only adults should have, after gaining adult status felt like not only me but the people my age around me weren’t capable of realizing the actual repercussions of some of the choices we were making and even now I can’t fathom thinking I’ll be done developing until I hit dementia and/or death.
Maybe what we have now (varies across societies) is best but I’d think if we put our minds to it we could come up with something better. That being said if I feel so inclined to partake & given the option, I’ll still chose a Midwest bar with a 25-30+ age limit over the anyone over 21 option
