Not to defend WhatsApp or whatever but from reading the article (and not just the headline) those claims seem to be based on unnamed whistleblowers and might as well be completely false.

Ich denke, dass es deshalb umso wichtiger wird, Konzerne wie Meta zusätzlich per Gesetz zu solchen datenschützenden Maßnahmen zu bringen. Denn wie du schon andeutest: Die meisten Leute machen sich entweder keine Gedanken über das Thema oder sind letztendlich nicht bereit zu wechseln, weil dort ja eh alle sind.

But how many people are actually doing that? I reckon most people (myself included) don’t realise the extents of influence social media and other media outlets have on them, let alone act on that knowledge.
