It is not just vast in distance, it is also vast in time.

Imagine an advanced civilization; it rises and is space fairing for 30million years. Something (who knows what) happens and they either go extinct; or render themselves unable to travel in space/use technology.

30 million years; it seems so long from our point of view; but that 30 million years could have ended a million years ago and we would be none the wiser. Their signals faded to nothingness the machines all broken and cold. And still that is a blip on the scale of the universe.

  • That happened to me a few years back, a friend just had his clutch fail in his car. I started thinking how to make a better way to transfer power from motor to wheels.

Turns out I just reinvented the fluid coupling used in automatic transmissions…needless to say my idea wasn’t that impressive after that.

I was going to say something similar. Testosterone levels don’t make beliefs more likely…there are plenty of Female MAGA’s.

I have very high natural testosterone; I sit adjacent to the general left right politics; preferring policy that has quality evidence to back it up. Scientifically oriented most of my political ideas land squarely on the “left”; because being good to people generally leads to better outcomes for everyone.

I had terrible insomnia as a late teen/early 20’s guy.

What “fixed” it for me was rock climbing (indoor sports walls). It’s both physically and mentally challenging. When you are climbing you are focused on the climb and noting else. The exercise helps tire you out and gives you a boost in endorphins when you a done.

I’m still a very light sleeper 20 years later; but I rarely get less than 5 hours a night these days.

I still climb once a week.

The root cause of my insomnia was rumination; I literally couldn’t stop thinking about all the stuff happening. Rock climbing forced my mind to focus on something productive the exercise helped tire my body out so that it was ready for sleep. Getting both body and mind ready for sleep helped so much.

This is my experience; I hope it can give you some help.

  • Miss, your shirt has a slur on it. Which one is it? Um, it’s all of them.

“Oh I know, I’m satirizing the propensity of westerners wearing clothes with words on them they don’t understand”

“But, but, they are all terrible slurs, doesn’t that make you a bad person? You could have picked any random shit!”

“Yes, but then you wouldn’t have said anything, I get much more of a reaction this way” (thinking smugly, I am so smart)
