I have many symptoms of ADHD, but thankfully not this one. I never really forget where I kept things, in fact I remember them in absurdly high detail. Maybe that’s a symptom too, who knows.

Can you read? If yes, read the article. She did try other things. Nothing worked. It’s easier to say wise-sounding shit when you make up your own facts, I guess.
I hope you step on a lego and develop a skin disease.

292·12 days agoMotherfucker, you know what happens if you walk away from an abuser? They abuse you further. Read the fucking article. Violence wasn’t her first response. It was her last resort. Some need to be dealt with violence, since it’s the only language that they understand.
I see you replying with the same bullshit on over this post. I wonder why you feel so comfortable defending a piece of shit pervert.

5·12 days agoI get it, but why punish the bullied person then? Let them off the hook as well. That doesn’t follow any logic.
Aside on the Platner thing, I don’t like the guy because he gives off some weird vibes. But I don’t think he’s a Nazi. He’s been pretty honest about his past, and I think we should learn to let people grow.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•How many of you are non-native English speakers?
3·15 days agoI don’t know how good my English is, but it’s my third language. Bengali and Hindi are my first two. I speak a couple more languages closely related to these (e.g. Urdu, Punjabi, Assamese, Odia, Sanskrit etc. Also been trying to learn French). But I can’t read or write in them.
I learnt English from two sources. My reading and writing abilities mostly come from school. I had some pretty good teachers, who encouraged reading newspapers to learn English. At least in my case, it really helped.
When it comes to speaking and understanding spoken English (with all its irregularities due to accents and whatnot), watching movies and cartoons helped. I used to download and watch all kinds of movies during high school, possibly some that I shouldn’t have watched at that age. My love for movies is basically what made me somewhat competent in the spoken aspect of English. (It also got me into piracy, and ultimately into FOSS, so I guess I owe a lot to the great directors whose movies were hard to find legally lol.)

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What are some common things people buy that you would never buy?
1·18 days agoI’ve edited my comment with some more recommendations. Mokapots are very forgiving, so you’ll be fine with preground coffee. If you get a decent hand grinder, I’ll bet money that you can’t tell the difference between that and any fancy grinder, Mokapots are just that forgiving.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What are some common things people buy that you would never buy?
4·18 days agoUse it within a week or so, and it’s very close. Hell, I’d say even two weeks is fine; but it may depend on your method of brewing, and sensitivity of palate. You can even freeze part of the grounds to keep them fresh for longer. James Hoffmann did a nice video about it.
If you really want to grind yourself, you can get really nice hand grinders for around $150 from 1Zpresso. If you’re on a tighter budget, Timemore C3 is a good cheaper optiosn, that’s good enough for anything that’s not espresso, or turkish coffee.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What are some common things people buy that you would never buy?
2·18 days agoYeah. I have a somewhat cheap one at around $300, but if you don’t wanna buy, try looking for local roasteries. They usually offer preground options. Even some coffee shops will grind it for you if you ask nicely. Their grinders are usually much fancier than whatever any enthusiast will buy anyway.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Do you guys know people who are awful human beings, but end up being super attractive, smart and loved by everyone they seem, but you can see through their bullshit and don't like them?
1·19 days agoDue to my father being a student leader in his youth, and later a local socialist party worker, I happen to know quite a few Indian politicians. I know people both from the left, and the right, and more than 90% of them are awful manipulative bastards. That’s the main reason I decided not to be active in the party. Even though I support their on-paper agenda, I just loathe the leadership, and don’t have the patience or the will to work with them. I still go to their events whenever I’m in India, like fundraisers and stuff, but I try to avoid the leadership. Fuckers make my skin crawl.
Edit: All the people talking about therapy in the other comments probably mean well, but not everything can (or needs to) be solved by therapy. I think this is one of the negative aspects of therapy when its hyper focused on individuals. This sort of idea that everyone should try to change themselves, instead of critiquing the society is what’s got us into this individualistic hellhole. Sure, go ahead and disconnect from these people, or learn to ignore them and be happy; but these people are still there, and they often have real power over us. You can ignore them, until you can’t; that’s how we get people like Trump.
This is even more apparent with the online Indian hate. It’s so manufactured. Especially on Instagram, that place is a hell hole.

Look, I’m one of those ADHD folks who are pretty successful in their career despite all the mental issues.
Let me tell you, it still kinda sucks. Every day is a struggle. Even though it always works out in the end for me, the process is the punishment.
Most people don’t. Social media makes it seem like they do, but most people’s lives are at least somewhat messy.

Yeah. We usually consider lawyers, doctors, tech people, academics at fancy universities etc. to be rich. But in the grand scheme of things, they’re upper middle class at best. The real rich are all people with generational wealth coming from businesses.
