  • I’m so happy to see a few alternatives popping up already and I hope to see them fleshed out well.

As someone who’s pretty new to things like FOSS, self hosting, etc. I am hopeful that there will be a release that’s more “idiot proof”.

I have a few friends who aren’t going to spend time trying to learn all the small things needed to set up stuff. Hopefully I’ll be able to set up something and just invite them and they just have to make an account in an app type thing to use. Lol

Not sure I follow? I worked for it. I worked very hard to be in a position to buy it and afford it. Some who can’t afford the full price but can pay rent and still get to benefit of a home living lifestyle without needing to own. What’s wrong with that?

There’s a divergence here because some people expect a hand out, not a hand up. There are programs in some countries where people rent to ownership and I think that’s what the government and other private companies should be doing. But I don’t like being lotted in the slumlord scums.

For what it’s worth, I’d like to add that I work a regular job still 50hrs a week. I have a single other property and don’t consider myself a “landlord” because it’s not my career or something I base my sole livelihood on.

If the government wants to make housing a human right and take it over with some fair compensation I’d be happy to not own. Property management comes with its own set of trials and challenges with horrible tenants, bad people go both ways.

  • Hilarious and also sad because it’s true. I was privileged to attend a private school for a bit and the grocery store across the street had to ban the students. I also worked 2 jobs at the school so I was able to talk to a lot of the various workers there and got talking to the cafeteria manager.

He told me that the theft at the cafeteria was insane and they had cameras and could identify who was stealing. Overwhelming it was the students from the richest most wealthy families.

Some of us got there through scholarships, some of them got there through money.
