  • They haven’t freaking learned from their dumbass hyperbolic rhetoric, have they?

“It’s a war” “It’s us against tHeM” “ThEy’re coming for us and we gotta fight ThEm”

Everything is a “war” and a “conflict” and some self-righteous last stand for them. Usually to take over something or rob someone or otherwise violate others.

This rhetoric breeds unhinged insanity. And sometimes that insanity they drum up turns around and manifests at lethally high velocity like it did with Kirk.

    And they KEEP DOING IT.

We really need to keep pointing and laughing and asking in earnest “Why the hell are you so WEIRD?”

  • This is why I’ve considered an idea for all those cities occupied by our own troops right now…

I’m thinkin’, everybody should get really buddy buddy with the troops. Take the kids to meet them. Give them water bottles on a hot day. Make smalltalk. Ask about their families. Get on a first name basis. No ulterior or subversive motives, like legit BEFRIEND these people.

The way fascists justify turning the military on anyone is dehumanization.

Maybe Corporal Huggins could be ultimately convinced to attack “Those rebellious protesters.” But is he going to be as willing to fix his rifle on “Armin, that guy who always asks how I’m doing” and “Barbara, who brought us donuts that one time”, or “George, whose little boy Eric thought I looked so cool and thanked me for keeping the city safe”?

It’s stupid that they’re there. They mostly think so too, and if we bond over that, I think it could increase the chances of better outcomes when the orange Caligula escalates his insanity.

Winning a population with “hearts and minds” can work both ways.

The hellspawn in office are counting on us to cower and keep to ourselves, or violently lash out and justify death in return. Either way they would get what they want.

Who knows, I’m just daydreaming here but maybe eventually we’d even get the military’s support in rocking the absolute shit out of ICE if they catch a van of LARPing terrorists coming to drag their friends away.

We need to solidify our bonds as human Americans, before these filthy outsider monsters that captured some cushy chairs succeed in turning us violently on each other when we should be coming for them.

  • But I would maybe consider using Linux for everything except for specifically games that require Windows.

That’s the way. I started this way too, and as I got more comfortable well, my Windows partition hasn’t been booted for a couple years now because OpenSUSE Tumbleweed has run all my games beautifully.

Vermintide II even stopped crashing the entire system when I used Linux instead of Windows! On Nvidia BTW.

Even though sometimes it feels like I might be missing out on playing some of the newest hypey-est multiplayer games, I also remind myself that I don’t want something on my computer like the new Battlefield’s or Riot Games’ incredibly creepy and invasive anticheat, no matter the OS!

… Plus, I got like a thousand games to enjoy anyway. Maybe you’ll feel the same, idk?

I will say though, Linux starts to just feel fun to compute on. It feels like a machine that’s yours instead of some licensed appliance. I missed that feeling from the really old Windows days when it was fun.

Do a little exploring, but picking a distro with KDE should feel at home really quick coming from Windows. :)

  • a job that refused to pay me overtime after a year of working for them as the sole employee/manager of the shop.

Wow, like they would force you to work just under the limit to qualify for overtime, or wouldn’t pay overtime owed? Because that’s straight up wage theft!

I notice businesses that try to be “savvy” by taking shortcuts and skirting labor laws tend to collapse themselves once they run out of employees that are way too good for them and won’t put up with it anymore.

    Glad you escaped.
