Europe@feddit.org•Does Europe Finally Realize It’s Alone?English
3·17 hours agoHow about falling
Yeah how about that? The rise of Facism is most certainly not uniquely a European problem for starters, they are growing roots everywhere There is a whole worldwide culture war going on.
The undermining of Europe has existed for a long while now actually; let’s say since after the construction of the Berlin wall. The difference now is that’s concentrated in the resurgence of the extreme right, also it seems more widespread , and the last years the efforts by US and or RF and CCP have intensified.
In a very weird way Europe should really thank the UK for the Brexit. If that event hadn’t shook Europe to it’s core, the anti-EU lobby would now have had a much stronger grip.

Europe@feddit.org•Does Europe Finally Realize It’s Alone?English
10·1 day agoThey arent alone
Yes agreed , it’s been imo dramatically portrayed as we have been overly dependant on the US to take the lead after WWII. They were able to cut through most internal divisions, and now its enterily up to us.
Time to feel more confident and step out in the World, not as post-WWII Europe or an infant sucking at anyone’s tits, but as self conscious and aware Union with it’s own character, values and way of life.

Europe@feddit.org•US security plan: EU's Kallas downplays fear of rift in tiesEnglish
1·2 days agoProbably. Maybe they can get away with it doing that. But if we really want to stay safe, I’m worried that ship may have sailed. We do need to take back the iniative and have a more unified response. A bit of nice posturing and bluffing, wouldn’t harm Europe stoic reputation ( perceived cowardness) or would it?

Europe@feddit.org•US security plan: EU's Kallas downplays fear of rift in tiesEnglish
8·2 days agoKallas doesn’t adress here concerning isues like:
-
The strategy also appeared to espouse the white supremacist Great Replacement conspiracy theory, according to which white European populations are being deliberately replaced by non-white peoples.
-
The strategy plan said Europe was faced by issues such as “censorship of free speech and suppression of political opposition, cratering birthrates, and loss of national identities and self-confidence.”
-
Also a declared terrorist fascist USA group The Base is working now in Europe to correct the European path to become a white ethno state. A cell was recently arrested in Spain
-
Add: Almost forgot, how does USA gets to pressure Belgium ( De Wever), just after Russia threatened Belgium, over the realese of the frozen Russian assets?
This is out of control. Europe needs to get the iniative back and dictate the narrative. The war and the Russian problem are here in our backyard.
How will Europe adress that?

Europe@feddit.org•Germany rejects US security strategy's 'outside advice'English
2·3 days agoSeems Trump has officially and proactively dealigned himself from NATO and his European allies. I reckon this whole new report makes it now official. Europe can’t and shouldn’t look away any longer. Trumptator, and Putler too, should both face consequences. Now.
It’s the end of the old world order. We need a new one, like yesterday. That means Europe (& Friends) will need to do a lot of more work. The era of talking is over, the era of " make it so" must begin. Europe has been forged by crises, will it reforge itself again?
It’s weird to be actually alive in a time where a new history is literally being made. Whether the European Project succeeds, which it can and should, or a new day in history has certainly started.
And sure… well Trump being Trump, it might be internal politics or change his mind. And Rutte being Rutte, Mr Teflon, he might say that Nato’s not concerned with matters of US internal politics. But let’s put it this way, it’s clear Trump is selling off Europe to the highest bidder, Putin & China, and until now our leaders are letting him get away with it.
Basically Europe should declare him persona non grata already, if not de jure, then de facto. ICJ could even start an investigation for his traitorous and criminal behaviour, as the US Supreme Court has obviously proven it is incapable and unwilling of doing that itself.

1·3 days agoshould be an icon somewhere when accounts are < 1 months. See this picture it has this yellow thingy next to poster name <1 day
No real filter option as such, like Tesseract, but it helps for the " filtering".

1·3 days agoI’m not on that community but in World, Europe and Politics community I’ve seen this issue too. Don’t recognize that alias with the numbers though. But a new user posts a whole lot for 3 hours and then deletes it’s own account. And then gets a new account. Repeat.
See also ex. this post on Lemmy/support.
add: fyi a solution: Tesseract and Voyager have filters for accounts< 1 month old

World News@lemmy.world•Trump administration says Europe faces 'civilisational erasure'English
7·3 days agoOf course he does. Any real democracy is a threat to autocrats. Especially if they don’t cede to bullies. So the louder the autocrats bark, the bigger their fears are, and the stronger democracies get.
Hope BELGIUM @ DeWever understands this too. Maybe we need to mail the Belgian PM, so he doesn’t fold and release the frozen funds.

Europe@feddit.org•After Years of Controversy, the EU’s Chat Control Nears Its Final Hurdle: What to KnowEnglish
2·3 days agoFYI: yesterday? was a recent update on this on Patrick Breyers page. Seems a high weight EC member has actually supported the critical anti chatcontrol stance that the EP has. It appears the only ones pushing the idea are a majority of memberstates P.M.'s… ( #E)
It’s a long article, based on some of his ealier speeches. Here some highlights if you want a very late night/ early morning “Stubb Snack”:
-
We live in a new world of disorder. The liberal, rules-based order that arose after the end of World War II is now dying. Multilateral cooperation is giving way to multipolar competition. Opportunistic transactions seem to matter more than defending international rules.
-
The next five to ten years will likely determine the world order for decades to come.
-
Finland has embraced what I have called “values-based realism”: committing to a set of universal values based on freedom, fundamental rights, and international rules while still respecting the realities of the world’s diversity of cultures and histories. The global West must stay true to its values but understand that the world’s problems will not be solved only through collaboration with like-minded countries.
-
Three broad regions now make up the global balance of power: the global West, the global East, and the global South.

3·4 days agoIdk, that’s what a calculation by IMF quoted for the services. Didn’t dig into that.
But I do remember from years ago the differences in wages of a doctor in Romania and in Northern Europe. Same still goes for manual labour like plumbing, construction, woodwork.
This is Reuters quoting that fyi. Arch.
Edit: damn now I get what you mean. Never thought of it that way LOL. 110 % cheaper meaning you earn 10% haha

Europe@feddit.org•France and Germany warn US could 'betray' Ukraine in push for peace, Spiegel reportsEnglish
5·4 days agoMaybe it’s just me. But there is a huge difference in what Politicians say openly and to some insider’s ears.
Ofcourse " WE" believe in a Peaceplan and in the best intentions by Putin and Trump!! (/not).
Since a long time I feel Europpean Politicians have just played trusting Putler and the Trumptraitor, both. I mean like what are they going to say " we don’t trust you?". As if fascist narcissistic people would ever give a fuck about someone else opinion. Unless, ofc they are birds of a feather.
Yesterday, I reacted to a comment by a Gringo who stated that Europe IS ( still) willfully ignorant of Putin’s intentions and that we actually believe in his peace.
I don’t get it that people don’t understand that this is how diplomacy works. Lots of BS and ass kissing usually, and Europe needs to do this too, especially now unfortunately.

41·4 days agoOh man, The internal market is really in bad shape and worse than I imagined.
Seems that the internal market system IS very incredibly fucked up, and it’s all due to national legislation( or lack of common regulations)
