  • Yeah, forums exist but they have a real hard time growing their userbase these days. It’s just more deliberate to visit a particular forum’s website, then usually click on a subforum, then look at a thread, and then see its contents. Then you might be on page 37 of a thread and people are all discussing that post from page 33. It’s slow compared to something like Reddit/Lemmy or Xitter style sites that put the content right in your face without having to look around.

I’m prone to falling for this myself even as I lament forums growing quiet. But I guess the best thing to do is link directly to forum threads from other social media and hope enough users trickle in.

What I REALLY hate is Discord servers replacing forums for things like video game FAQs and it’s really hard to find the latest announcement, bug workaround, or whatever without butting into the conversation and asking (you’re the 48th person to ask today and people are a little annoyed).

  • Maybe you would say I deserved to be extorted by the government for passing a semi truck instead of hanging around behind it. But essentially, making the threat that your insurance rates could go up by a lot OR you can the fine PLUS an extra fee to a private company, is dastardly. If their purpose was public safety rather than extracting money, they would not be doing this. They also lie saying the fine will be waived to get you not to argue and exercise your rights.

And then, of course, for a while after something like this you start to REALLY notice every time a cop does 11mph over the speed limit. Or 20mph. Or 30mph. Or doesn’t use their blinker, and so on (and no, I obviously dont mean with their lights on for an emergency).

  • Speed limit: 65 Trucks: 55 I pass a truck at 76… That’s a ticket, 11mph over puts you in the “real fines” zone. Never mind that the truck was going 21mph over his speed limit.

Oh, and then the officer says… Since its a first offense, you can waive the fine if you take our online class, and it won’t be reported to your insurance.

The online class has a fee of exactly the fine +$10. Payable to some private company of course.

I wanted to turn around, drive back to Nebraska and [fedpost].

  • I can believe you knew someone like that once. But no. Religious fundamentalists are not widespread and pervasive. They dont make up the majority of a fucking fast food chain to the point where you would say it’s only “technically” open to the public. They dont make up much if any of the police force. What on earth led you to think that is the case. Did you live in a town with a population of 124 that was like that?

  • Look theres good enough reasons to hate Chick-Fil-A but you are not telling me your brain lives in a world where the teenagers who work there are all (or even a lot of them) isolated religious fundamentalist nuts who just got let off the cult compound to interact with society???

They hire normal people with interviews??? Teenagers go to fucking public school???

The leadership isnt even close to “westboro baptist church” levels of extreme???
