1·7 months agoWhen I left, I went to Canada. Then the UK - which was in Europe back then. Then I lived in a bunch of countries in Europe. Then Australia. Then back to Europe. That’s where I am now.

0·7 months agoI left the US and renounced my citizenship 24 years ago, after Dubya shat out the USA Patriot Act and I knew the US would turn into a full-blown Nazi state some day.
Best thing I ever did.

News@lemmy.world•Man whose daughter died from measles stands by failure to vaccinate her: "The vaccination has stuff we don’t trust"
1·9 months agoIt takes a special kind of crazy to say vaccines have untrustworthy ingredients over the dead body of your unvaccinated child.
Mennonite man
Ah… right okay.

News@lemmy.world•An unvaccinated child has died in the Texas measles outbreak
1·9 months agoWhen the parents are irresponsible, most other nations step in and make the responsible choice for their children in their place, whether the dumb parents like it or not.
But in the US, the state is even more irresponsible than the parents.
What a sad, sad country it has become…

1·10 months agoWorth noting: rare breeds tend to be weaker, less adapted to their environment and disappear easily.
That’s why they’re rare.

Reddit@lemmy.world•Reddit has become the face of enshittification
1·2 years agoI’m all for staying here on Lemmy: Lemmings are nicer than Redditors and the place is a lot higher S/N ratio.
But… sadly, due to inertia, Reddit is still where a lot of stuff is squarely at. There are long-established Reddit communities - often nice, well behaved communities - that don’t give a toss about the Reddit drama, and are simply not interested in moving out.
I’ve been trying to kickstart an equivalent Reddit community here on Lemmy for almost a year. While there’s a handful of members, it’s basically just me infrequently posting in it. The original one on Reddit has almost 10K members, is fairly active, and clearly none of the members know anything about Lemmy - much less want to create an account and join my insignificant equivalent community. I keep it around in case Reddit enshittifies to such an extent that even those who don’t care start taking notice. But at the moment, inertia is much too strong.

1·2 years agoMost people I know who have any trouble tolerating advertisement use Newpipe. I don’t understand how the official Youtube client is even relevant anymore.

It was easy for me: I had dual citizenship. I simply renounced the wrong one - which cost me a pretty penny: it’s a real racket run by the US, this. But it paid for itself many times over in that I never had to pay US taxes for income I generated outside the US, which is also another US racket.
