That’s what I thought too. The crazy AI agentic coding craze on HN seems fake and manufactured sometimes. Whenever the topic is about AI coding, there will be huge spike in comments.

Lot’s of personal testimonies trying to sell the agentic coding dream. Some are bordering on insanity, like some guy claiming to be a single father raising his kids at home, who vibe coded some complex program for his business on Android termux. Like nah, that’s 100% pure AI generated nonsense.

Someone really really really wants the developers there to fear missing out. Like Satya Nadella of Micro$lop said, they reaaaaaally need people to get on asap. What better place to start than HN.

Sure. I booted ventoy to test distros, but when it came time to install the final distro, I wiped ventoy and reflashed it.

I think, therefore I am. If they don’t think, I’m not so sure.

AI gets increasingly easy and more capable, so there’s really no reason to adopt AI early in case you miss out. AI never allows anyone to miss out, the end goal is quite literally to be used by babies and animals. Any preparation you do today, is preparation you don’t need to do in the near future as AI strives to take over everything.

Feel free to set AI aside and work on yourself. You won’t miss out. AI won’t let you miss out.

Have you used a different machine? None of your issues are what I experience(on both x11 and waland). My issues on x11 are to do with general lags and unreliable sleep/wake. It’s weird how there’s no consistency, everyone seems to have a different set of issues. If even the issues are different, I wonder how the devs can even fix it.

What exactly isn’t ready? All I know is the lack of trackpad gestures and fractional scaling(even though I don’t use it) in x11. X11 is the one that feels more janky while wayland has been smooth sailing.

I’m even developing a gtk4 program, I assume if there were problems with wayland I’ve would’ve noticed it by now. On the other hand, testing my program on debian 13 with x11 did make the experience a little jankier.

Given such huge differences in reported experiences, I can only assume it’s a difference in hardware compatibility? Are some machines just better in x11 and others in wayland? Is that why everyone has such different experiences?

I wonder what’s going to happen to the electron frontends if machines are bottlenecked by ram so bad. Wasn’t facebook just planning to switch whatsapp’s frontend to webview as well? And win11’s desktop is electron too. Everyone was acting like ram is unlimited.

What. My six year old cheapo Acer laptop that got my broke ass through college had 16gb ram. My raspberry pi has 8gb of ram.

As far as I know, none. “Smart” in smart TVs means ads, data collection and profit, they aren’t about to leave money on the table.

The only way to get “dumb” TVs is to purchase digital signage TVs meant for in-store displays and other business use. In fact, they’re better than ordinary TVs with improved cooling and rated lifespans, specially designed to run 24 hours a day in a cafe or smth.

Unfortunately, companies don’t sell it to individuals, you have to buy it as a company. You either have to buy used or set up your own shell company. I’m this close to setting up a fake company to buy a TV, but I’m not sure if it’ll work. Hopefully there’s no secret legally binding TOS or smth.

As long as as humans haven’t succumed to brainrot and still have capacity for math and logic, we can figure it out. It’s encoded, not encrypted.

The classic problem of long-term nuclear waste warning messages is about conveying information over cultural barriers. This is a concrete data type, not interpretation of vague contexual meanings from pictograms. Math and logic don’t change while cultures do. Images are far more retrievable than the meaning of an image.

Alcohol on the other hand… Haven’t you heard that Gen z and younger have much lower rates of drinking? Social drinking is on the decline, and I argue it supports my theory. Their friends aren’t drinking socially as much, so many don’t either.

I don’t think VPN are going to help much. Good VPNs are paid services, and it’s kids under 18 we’re talking about here. They would somehow need to maintain a recurring VPN subscription fee from their pocket money. Free VPNs aren’t the same thing, they’re usually exposed to steal data or other nefarious activities.

Platforms like discord and roblox aren’t blocked because they’re considered communication apps or games. Kids will probably just stay there.

I fully believe it will work. The point is not to make it impossible to visit, but very annoying to. I cannot forsee the average kid jumping through hoops to maintain access, especially when most of their and their friends accounts were deleted. Eventually, they’ll realise there’s nothing left to go back to. Social media lives and dies by it’s number of users after all.
