I like this one a lot more! It’s the stone I was going to use on the last one before I screwed it up and I remembered to put antenna on it this time! Still need to glue the pin backs on (they’re not solderable, at some point I’ll make some out of brass or copper) and clear coat it but all the cosmetic stuff is done! Kinda hesitant to post so soon after the last one cause I don’t want to spam but figured people might be interested

The bottom wings being incomplete on the previous one was because I accidentally melted one while soldering on the prongs for mounting the stone! I wasn’t paying attention to how hot I got it and that section melted away so I filed off the melted blobs and cut out the other side to match! Yep, I have a little round end hammer and just tap away! The bend in the wings is actually a natural result of hammering it, the way it stretches it out just so happens to give it the perfect bend!

What kind of gas torch were you using to solder the brass? Acetylene? I’ve never heard of brass melting like that in my (very limited) experience.
Like I know it’s possible since brazing is a thing, just didn’t expect it from soldering
Yep, acetylene. I used thinner than usual sheet for it (26 gauge) which because of the lower mass heats up faster. It’s something you mostly have to worry about with bezels, because they’re done with thin wire. The torch gets hot enough you can ise it to melt silver in a crucible for casting!
Lol ok, that makes more sense to me now. The only time I’ve used acetylene was cutting rusted bolts and for silver spin casting to completely liquify little strips.
