There is metric in the article, just not the headline:
The 750-square-kilometre site has the potential to become Australia’s first major new oil province since the 1970s, according to a peak energy producers’ body.
I’m teasing anyway. This is one of those measures that most people can’t easily envision based solely on the number, whether metric or sq miles. I assume Aussies probably have a familiarity with Singapore, given the relative proximity, so using it in the title does make sense.
