The US invading Canada would be the end of the US. Yeah the American military is good at invading countries. Occupations, not so much. But unlike other failed occupations where you had an ocean in between you and the other country and you could just pack up and go home, there would be no going home from an invasion of Canada. Our invasion of Afghanistan lasted 20 years and cost us around 2,000 lives. It cost the Afghans more than 100,000. In excess of a million if you count non-direct deaths.

I have no idea if we’d succeed or not in an annexation of Canada, and it doesn’t matter. What matters is that optimistically millions of people would die, and they would be disproportionately Canadian civilians.

I make no such assumption. The reality is it takes time to actually produce them. It can take years to build the equipment needed to start production on the materials. A nuke in 4 years isn’t a deterrent to an attack in less than 3.
