I think one of the directors or authors wanted to make it explicit but never did. They have always been written as gay

His character was genetically engineered/altered so he knew to keep his options open. I’m sure they have many options in Star Trek. Really fits for an accepting future.
Unsure if that’s been explored in recent series the only ‘new’ one I’ve started is Strange New Worlds and it’s been (mostly) great but only a few episodes in so far. I do enjoy everything before streaming, least most episodes heh, lots of filler ones back then.
