Texas cannot use a new congressional map drawn by Republicans in hopes of securing the party additional U.S. House seats, a panel of three federal judges ruled Tuesday.

The ruling was a blow to President Donald Trump’s efforts to have GOP lawmakers in multiple states redraw their maps to help the party preserve its slim House majority in the potentially difficult 2026 midterm elections.

“The public perception of this case is that it’s about politics. To be sure, politics played a role in drawing the 2025 Map. But it was much more than just politics. Substantial evidence shows that Texas racially gerrymandered the 2025 Map,” the ruling states.

I’m all fairness, they should block California’s too. I don’t think redrawing districts is the fix. I don’t know what the fix is, but it’s something else.

California’s was built in such a way that it would only kick in if Texas kicks in. In all fairness, I think the American people who aren’t the 1% or insane, are not voting or voting dem next elections. The writing is on the wall, which is why some republicans are turning.

Edit: See below for corrections on the California “built in to only kick in for Texas” part.

Speaking as a Californian, that would be okay with me. I felt kind of gross voting for it in the first place but we’re past idealism now.

To be fair, there are democratically run, states that are moderately or heavily gerrymandered themselves. Of course Republicans benefit the most from gerrymandering.

I wonder if they even can block California’s, as it was a proposition voted on by the voters?

If no other states are mid cycle redistricted to favor Republicans, then absolutely California’s should be voided. As long as other states are stealing seats mid cycle like this, I’m OK with California’s going through.

Yeah but Cali should appeal because I suspect they’d allow Texas at the last second.
