Star Trek: Starfleet Academy (Released in 2026) takes place in 32nd Century (Discovery-Era) and follows a group of 1st-year Cadets going to the Academy, the Academy itself also for the first time going back to Earth after 100 years under the chancelorship of Captain Nahla Ake (played by Holly Hunter). It also has returning faces like Robert Picardo as The Doctor/EMH from Star Trek: Voyager as the lead Medical Officer for Starfleet Academy and Tig Notaro as Jett Reno, an instructor at the Academy, and features a new hero ship, the USS Athena, a ship that ‘docks’ with San Francisco to act as both campus and training vessel for the Academy.

The primary plot of the first season revolves around one of these students, Caleb Mir, attempting to find his mother after being seperated from her as a child. He does this with the help of Captain Nahla Ake, the woman who seperated him from his mother. The only person they know who is connected to the disappearance of his mother is Nus Braka (played by Paul Giamatti), a criminal guilty of murder and so much more.

Generally, the show explores the difficulties of finding your place in the world and trying to find your personal path. While this is a ‘teenagery’ and ‘CW’ style narrative, it never actually feels like it’s aimed at teenagers. Nor does it feel light, glib or trite. Just like the best Star Treks, there are moments where your heart sinks and moments where it soars.

    Give it a shot <3
