Six weeks ago, I was elected to Congress. I’m still waiting to be sworn in.
House Speaker Mike Johnson’s recess of the U.S. House of Representatives during a time of grave national crises is shockingly irresponsible. House Republicans have been on vacation for six weeks while our economy crumbles, federal workers go without paychecks, health care premiums skyrocket and funding for food stamps dwindles. This is negligent and cruel.

Then why hasn’t it been enforced?
looks around… uhhh, have you not been paying attention? Or is that a rhetorical question?
There’s a legal challenge in the works right now. The system takes time and humans need to do things like sleep and eat.
Great! And once that happens, there’s going to be zero penalty for Mike Johnson not doing his job. I’m not saying it’s a good strategy. I’m saying it’s all they got.
Congress hasn’t been in session yet. That’s the loophole. It’s stil. “Legal”
Which is why I said “enforceable”.
Like Trump leaving the FEC without a quorum so it can’t enforce election laws. There’s nothing forcing him to appoint anybody. So he leaves it vacant and none of the laws the FEC is responsible for enforcing can be enforced. They’re as good as non existent.
Same with this. There’s no mechanism forcing this guy from swearing in the congressman.
By who? A stern speech from Congress? A strongly worded letter from a judge?
A judicial order is legally binding, a bit more forceful than a strongly worded letter.
Zactly mah point boo
